In May every year like clockwork, my allergies kick in. My eyes water, I sneeze and my throat itches like nobodies business. Over the course of my allergy season I wind up spending over $100 on Claritin or other antihistamine based products. I hate it because, spending money on Claritin and allergy medicine is money that I could use elsewhere. Unfortunately I have a very hard time fending off my allergy symptoms so I have no choice but to spend the money on Claritin pills.

The health and comfort of the mother is the priority during pregnancy, and although Claritin may not be a first choice, sometimes it’s the only choice. In situations like this a mother has to do what is better for her, knowing any risks that might be associated. Thankfully, Claritin causes no increased risk of birth defect, so if you need it, you can probably keep taking it with no ill effects.

Nasal: Having to do with the nose. Nasal drops are intended for the nose, not (for example) the eyes. The word "nasal" came from the Latin "nasus" meaning the nose or snout.
