
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is reviewing the safety of Merck & Co's anti-asthma drug Singulair (montelukast) following reports querying a potential link between the drug's use and changes to behaviour and mood, suicide, and suicidal thinking and behaviour.

Montelukast is also used to prevent exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (narrowing of the air passages in the lungs) in people who are not already taking this medicine for other conditions.

NURSING MOTHERS: Studies in animals have shown that montelukast is excreted in milk; however, it is not known if montelukast is secreted into breast milk in humans
